Historical Museum on the River Rhine - Hildegard of Bingen

The "Historical Museum on the River Rhine ('Historisches Museum am Strom') – Hildegard of Bingen" is housed in a former city power station directly on the Rhine quay (at the mouth of the Nahe River) and has four permanent exhibitions. The large exhibition about Hildegard of Bingen can be viewed in the former machine workshop with its spacious gallery. The unique Bingen physician's instruments are kept in an individually designed, columned architecture, like in a treasure vault. The Rhine Romantic department brings to life the 19th century passion for the Rhine in historical salons and gallery rooms. A permanent exhibition on the town's history from its origins to the present day has been an ongoing project since 2002. Special exhibitions on regional and central Rhine cultural history round off the programme.
